DOVER BEACH, BARBADOS
NEW BUILD, HOTEL SPA
Spa essentially means health through water. The art of cleansing through water is customary in many cultures from the Japanese to the Romans to the Turkish. One of the most common types of baths is the Moroccan hammam steam room. This began our design process with the hammam room at the heart of the design and the use of the seaweed as an inspiration for our spaces. Acqua is located on the 8th floor of the building with views to the ocean from all rooms. We used a palette of white calacatta marble and distressed oak combined with gold accents. We also created a sea weed sculpture with the help of a local artist that leads you from the reception through to the treatment areas. Our concept was to create an elegant sophisticated space that was neutral in colour exuding a relaxed and cleansing atmosphere whilst showcasing the views of the beautiful aqua water of the Barbados ocean.

NEW BUILD
The first of its kind in the region, Serpentine Dermatology is a dermatological clinic that also offers skin aging management. This medical spa includes two medical treatment rooms, two spa amenity rooms, one wound care room, a doctor’s office, waiting and reception areas, and a retail space. To symbolise Serpentine’s philosophy that inner beauty precedes external beauty, we brought the pureness of the outdoors in, transforming the space into a calm retreat that both staff and patients love. The clinic’s space planning and finishes were an integral part of this interior design project, as we sought to create a modern aesthetic that was clinically rated, all without losing its warmth. We took special care to ensure that all cabinetry was fit for purpose for the various aspects of the clinic: display, medical and spa. Lighting played a large role in the aesthetic quality of the space, offering both display and functionality in the rooms.

NEW BUILD, HOTEL SPA
The look and feel of the Auriga Spa was inspired by the site’s existing tree house, which was nestled between the mangroves. In designing five more cabanas on the property, our team set out to achieve this same level of authenticity by situating them amidst lush landscaping, yet connecting them via a wooden bridge suspended above the mangrove. These cabanas serve as the reception area and relaxing lounge; three treatment rooms with outdoor showers walled off using local Soufriere stone. We also included two more cabanas, which house the steam room and the sauna. The salon overlooks the spa, offering beautiful views towards the bay. On the third level is the spacious gym; an adjoining large outdoor deck is used for practicing Pilates and yoga. All the spaces carry coastal and mangrove-inspired garden themes, offering guests a holistic experience, even as they move from one space to the next.
WOODBROOK, TRINIDAD
RENOVATION
We devised the design of this day spa by interpreting the client’s approach to her customers: we wanted the space to exude a warm, bubbly personality throughout its four private treatment rooms, beauty bar, open area mani/pedi room, sauna, waiting area and reception spaces.Playing off the original architectural style of the old gingerbread house in which the spa is located allowed us to maintain a visual link to the Caribbean, while modernising the aesthetic with fun, bright colours and contemporary fittings and fixtures.
CASTRIES, ST.LUCIA
NEW BUILD, HOTEL SPA
Working with G&G Interiors we were tasked with the client’s vision of creating a Spa experience that mimicked a St. Lucian Village. Our design, although traditional in form nods to the contemporary while conjuring up feelings of warmth and hospitality .Architectural influences in the West Indies are lively, eclectic and intriguing due to the many cultures that have journeyed over and laid roots in the region. There are elements from a myriad of cultures from Ameridian & African to Dutch, English, French and other European colonies. This diversity creates an interesting mix of color & design. The challenge was to recreate this historic sense of the authentic West Indian village amidst today’s modern world particularly against the back drop of a state of the art spa. Whilst the built form expresses the array of cultures and influences, it also evokes the charm and hospitality of the island. Each building houses different Spa rooms each offering a different treatment type. Although similar in aesthetic and form will each have a different soft shade of colour and detail of fretwork. The ambience is of vintage West Indies, the gingerbread fretwork casting shadows across the path with the swaying of the breadfruit ferns whispering in the tradewinds. The dappled sunlight glints off the pastel hues of the façade. The joyful play of shadows and light enhance the feeling of peace & serenity creating an unforgettable guest experience.
